National Coach's Day

Sports gives our students a chance to be part of a team, to grow, to stretch, to be challenged. We are very thankful for ALL our coaches who work hard to give students the chance to compete and to belong!

Monday was National Coach's Day, and we celebrate all our coaches! Thank you!

Horses Of Hope

Six students representing all three of our elementary schools are getting an amazing opportunity with Horses of Hope. Horses of Hope has been part of our Career Fair at Cascade High School for several years, and this summer they approached CTE Director Toni Wallisa with an opportunity for our students.

Our students visit multiple times and learn skills in caring for horses. But it's more than that, as the program focuses on building seven factors of resilience – Communication, Connection, Confidence, Character, Competence, Control, and Caring – adapted from the 5C’s model of Positive Youth Development.

All this is happening at no cost to Cascade, thanks to a grant earned by Horses of Hope. They want to help our students and give back to the community! We are very grateful.
Students at the Jr. High and the High School will participate later this year. You can learn more about Horses of Hope on their website. And you can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

Voice of the Oregon Ducks Visits Cascade High School

Our teachers keep giving great experiences to our students!

Mr. Lowder's Intro to Sports Media class at Cascade High School had a visit from the radio voice of the Oregon Ducks, Jerry Allen. Other classes joined in the library to hear some about the career of sports broadcasting.

Two of Jerry Allen's most famous radio calls were times where he let the emotions get away from him. He shared how he was down on himself for not being professional, but then saw how well it was received. He told the students, "I learned then that being real, being yourself, was what made an impact."

Jr. High STEM Students Have "Shark Tank" Experience

Mr. Thompson's STEM class (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at Cascade Junior High School have been working on how to make cars safer on impact. They use model cars and eggs to test their designs.

Last Friday, after designing and testing, they presented their ideas to some "investors" (Mr. Nolan, Mr. Dyer, and Mr. Rozo), like an episode of the TV show Shark Tank. Learning and fun can go together!

Conferences Oct. 27 and 28

In past years, the second Friday of October has been an in-service day before Fall Conferences. But this year, we have moved to later in the month, to give teachers more time to get to know their students before conferences.

There WILL be school this Friday, Oct. 10. There will NOT be school on Friday, Oct. 24 for a teacher work day, and no school on Oct. 27 and 28 for Fall Conferences.
